The Lafayette News recently featured John Clark’s work supporting faculty and student research in the geospatial humanities.  “Storyboards for the Human Experience“profiles John from his early days exploring GIS (geographic information systems) software as a student at the University of Maine, to his recent participation in the competitive Google Earth Geo for Good Summit at the Google conference center in California.

The news story touches on two major collaborations John has undertaken with Lafayette faculty.  John created maps for the digital companion piece to Pure Adulteration: Cheating on Nature in the Age of Manufactured Food (University of Chicago Press, 2019) by Benjamin Cohen (Engineering).  John also collaborated on maps for Outcasts of Empire: Japan’s Rule on Taiwan’s “Savage Border,” 1874-1945 (University of California Press, 2017) by Paul Barclay (History); a recent translation of the volume into Chinese features John’s maps.
